Where the strength of the spirit and dignity triumph over a time of faltering values and vulgarity, where words carry weight and convictions possess the strength of cosmic justice; where an entire generation was forced to grow up before its time, without the right to youth and weakness; where states and ideals disappeared while evil and primitivism emerged; where the last line of defense was rock and roll and the dignity of a band in spite of everything; where humanity could no longer be taken for granted in the eyes of a city weary of despair; and finally, where, despite everything, we did not forget the ordinary man—that is where this story lives.

AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY
Aleksandar Mihailović, principal actor of the Drama Ensemble of the National Theatre in Niš.
He graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pristina in 1999, in the class of Professor Božidar Dimitrijević.
He has collaborated with theatres in Zaječar, Pristina, Leskovac, Kragujevac, Pirot, and Kruševac, and has been permanently employed at the National Theatre in Niš since 1997. To date, he has performed more than 80 roles on various stages in Serbia and abroad.
He was an assistant at the Acting Department of the International University in Novi Pazar, higher education unit in Niš, under the mentorship of Branislav Lečić, and spent several years as Artistic Director of the Academic Theatre of the Student Cultural Centre (SKC) in Niš. He is the Artistic Director of the “Urban Fest” theatre festival of student and youth theatres, and is currently also engaged as a lecturer in Stage and Audiovisual Arts at the “Stevan Sremac” Grammar School in Niš.
To date, he has performed more than 80 roles on various stages in Serbia and abroad. He has received around twenty awards and recognitions for his acting work. He has participated in approximately 150 programmes, events, and ceremonies of local, national, and international significance, and has appeared in several feature films, television and documentary films, and television series.
He has directed six theatre productions and is also the author of several dramatic texts, most of which have been staged.
The play In Whose Name premiered at the National Theatre in Niš in 2017, based on a text by Aleksandar Mihailović, for which he received the Award for Best Dramatic Text at the international theatre festival “Teatar Fest – Petar Kočić 2019” in Banja Luka. The production remains in the repertoire to this day.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Once again, I find myself with my friends and colleagues in the world of musicals—a musical that speaks about my city, my band, my country that ceased to exist, that passed into history, almost into oblivion.
The memory of a time, of a great country filled with wonderful and profoundly diverse people, is kept alive for me by a rock ’n’ roll band. It reminds me what it was like to grow up, live, spend time together, sing, learn…
When it came to music and art in general, the 1980s in Yugoslavia were a golden age. The New Wave, pop culture, rock ’n’ roll and punk, the Prague film school, packed theatres, the Palme d’Or, top-level sports—all were the swan song of a society and an era, of a place and a culture in which we grew up, absorbing every note, letter, word, and image…
In my city, on the street between Image and Duga, we would squeeze together, waiting for concerts by major rock bands on the weekends. At the Music Club, in the Rock Café, we discovered demo bands and encountered their original music.
The musical The Sky Is Too Small for Everyone is a panegyric to a wonderful era, a great country with such talented and diverse people, and above all, to one band that marked our youth and that time—and, unlike that country, remained standing and on stage for a full forty years.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY
Aleksandar Marinković, principal actor of the Drama Ensemble of the National Theatre in Niš and a member of the theatre for 28 years. During that time, he has performed more than 60 roles at his home theatre, as well as numerous roles as a guest at other theatres in Serbia (Kragujevac, Zaječar, Lazarevac, Belgrade, Leskovac)…
He has received numerous awards at major theatre festivals in Serbia, including the “Days of Comedy” in Jagodina (twice), the Serbian Professional Theatres Festival “Joakim Vujić” (Grand Prix), the Festival of Premieres in Aleksinac, the “Milivoje Živanović Days” in Požarevac, and the Vršac Theatre Autumn. He is also the recipient of the Golden Badge of the Cultural and Educational Community of Serbia. He has been involved in theatre pedagogy.
Notable roles include: Volođa – Dear Yelena Sergeyevna (B. Dimitrijević), Petruchio – The Taming of the Shrew (M. Karadžić), Prince of Wales – Edmund Kean (I. Mensur), Ninković – The Minister’s Wife (D. Jovanović), Mića the Officer – Limunacija (N. Bradić), Leka – The Government and Its Opposition (E. Savin), Zobar – Gypsies Are Flying into the Sky (D. Stanojević), Joe – Some Like It Hot.
His directorial debut, the musical Some Like It Hot, based on the film of the same name, premiered at the National Theatre in Niš on February 20, 2022. The production received major awards at several festivals:
“Zoran’s Days” – Theatre of the Timočka Krajina “Zoran Radmilović”, Zaječar, October 22, 2022 – Award for Best Production.
“Days of Comedy”, Jagodina, March 25, 2023 – “Jovanča Micić” Award for the Funniest Production, as voted by the audience (4.93), the highest rating in the festival’s fifty-year history. Actor Uroš Milojević received the “Ćuran” Award for Best Male Performance (Jerry).
“April Fools’ Days of Laughter”, National Theatre in Leskovac, April 4, 2023 – Absolute winner; Audience Award for the Funniest Production at the festival.
The musical Some Like It Hot also participated in international showcase festivals, including the Musical Theatre Festival in Sofia and the “Barski ljetopis” festival in Bar in 2022, where it was greeted with standing ovations.
CHRONICLES OF THE THREE-HEADED DOG
MILOŠ PETKOVIĆ, author of the biography of the band Kerber
Even while I was gathering material and writing the fictionalized biography of Kerber (Chronicles of the Three-Headed Dog, Čarobna knjiga, 2022), images were coming to life before me—images suited for the silver screen or the stage that gives meaning to life. For me, it was an individual spectacle, my personal premiere and a kind of rock ’n’ roll time machine.
That is why I am extremely pleased, and indeed honored, that it proved inspiring to the other members of the creative team as well, and that the idea went further—first into the hands of Aleksandar Mihailović, who wrote the dramatic text, and then into the directorial hands of the other Aleksandar, Marinković.
That is why I expect the musical The Sky Is Too Small for Everyone to be both a remedy and a weapon for true values and worldviews—a tribute to a time gone by that can also be our time.
MILOŠ PETKOVIĆ’S BIOGRAPHY
Miloš Petković was born in Niš on July 14, 1986. He is one of the most prolific and widely read writers of the younger and middle generations in the former Yugoslavia. Known primarily as a fantasy writer, he is also a comic book scriptwriter, playwright, and Artistic Director of the “Zmajkon” Fantasy Convention.
He is the author of more than 20 prose works, one short story collection, and the biography of the band Kerber. His work has received numerous awards; seven of his novels have been included in the “Čitalići” reading list for primary and secondary schools, while four of his novels have been adapted into theatre productions.
For many years, he worked as the PR representative of the Niš Brewery. He is now a co-owner of the Lenjivac café, the creator of several pub quizzes, and the proud father of a high-school student, Nina, and husband of Staša, with whom he lives, dreams, and creates in Niš.
