The libretto, based on Meilhac and Halévy, was written by Hafner and Genée.

The world premiere took place in Vienna on April 5, 1874.

The production was created as a co-production of the National Theatre in Niš and the Faculty of Arts in Niš, with the participation of the Faculty of Arts in Niš Choir and Orchestra, in cooperation with the Niš Symphony Orchestra and the Niš Student Cultural Center.

The story takes place at a spa near a large city.

There are intermissions after the first and second acts.
